Dr. Sean Riley, President of St. Francis Xavier University, is pleased to announce that Timothy Lang has been appointed as Vice-President, Advancement, a leadership position that builds on StFX’s national reputation of excellence in academic and student experience. The appointment comes following a national search.
Mr. Lang, a StFX alumnus, has extensive experience as a senior executive with a number of national and multinational corporations in Canada, Britain and the United States. He comes to StFX most recently from Premiere Global where he held the position of Vice-President and National Director of Canadian operations.
As Vice-President, Advancement, he will lead fund development and steward campaigns that enable StFX to continue to offer Canada’s premiere undergraduate experience. He will also work to enhance affinity with StFX, and provide leadership to the university’s departments of Marketing and Communications, Alumni Relations, and Records Management.

Over the past 20 years, Mr. Lang has held a number of leadership roles. He served as Global Vice-President, Sales, Marketing and Communications with Energy Savings Income Fund, a $2 billion publically traded energy-marketing company. He also worked at Bell Canada as Director of Marketing with bell.ca and Vice-President and General Manager, Cesart/Bell Interactive. Prior to this, he held the position of National Sales Trainer with Xerox Canada.
Mr. Lang has a BA in political science from StFX (1987) and a MA in public administration, government and politics from the University of Manitoba. He has also completed a number of management and executive diploma courses from several institutions including the Schulich School of Business at York University.
An active volunteer, Mr. Lang served on the board of directors for the Children’s Aid Society Foundation in Toronto/Durham and the board of directors for the Community Care Centre ‘Toujours Ensemble Inc.’ in Montreal, a charity dedicated to providing meals and recreational facilities to children of low-income families.
He was a candidate for Member of Parliament in the federal election of 2004.
Along with his other accomplishments, Mr. Lang has enjoyed a stellar athletic career. He played CIS varsity football with both the StFX X-Men and the University of Manitoba Bisons. He was twice named an Academic All-Canadian, served as team captain of U of M Bison’s football, and played semi-pro football in England, where he received MVP and conference all-star awards. He was selected to Team Canada to compete at the World Bandy Championships in Helsinki, Finland. He also played on the Manitoba provincial rugby team.
Mr. Lang will take up his appointment effective December 7th.
