How do I apply for a StFX Major Scholarship?

What is financial need?
To determine if a student is in financial need, consideration is given to:
- Family Income
- Number of dependents supported by the family income
- Number if dependents attending university in the upcoming year

How is my scholarship average calculated?
Scholarship averages are calculated by using the five required course to the students admitted program, grade 11 marks will be used in the interim.
What should I expected if I was awarded a StFX Scholarship?
Official correspondence will be sent to notify students of this decision via email. Student’s accounts will be updated with their scholarships before arriving on Welcome Day. Please note that 50% of students scholarship posted will go towards fees owed in September and 50% of the scholarship posted will go towards fees owed in January.
How do I thank the donors?
We appreciate your willingness to thank the donors: it means a great deal to them to hear from their recipients.
What happens to my scholarship offer if I defer my acceptance?
If a student received a StFX National Entrance Scholarship, their scholarship can be deferred to January the following year at half the value or to September the following year at full value. The final value of your entrance award will be based on your final grade 12 grades.
If a student received a StFX Major Scholarship (including Schwartz, Public Policy and Governance, and Deveau), awarded to students based on competitive application, they will not be eligible to defer their scholarship. The student will be eligible to apply for Major Scholarships and you will receive information on how to do this with their new offer of admission the following year.
Will I still qualify for a StFX National Entrance Scholarship if I take a gap year?
A student will still qualify for a StFX National Entrance scholarship as long as they did not take more than six credits at another University.
What should I expect if I have met the renewal criteria?
If scholarship renewal criteria has been met the student will be notified by email, this is an automatic process completed by the StFX Scholarship office.
The scholarship will be applied to the students account before beginning classes in September of their next academic year.
What should I expect if I have not met my scholarships renewal criteria?
If renewal criteria has not been met in the students first year of study, the student will be reviewed at the end of their fall/winter academic term, in their second year. Students have their second year only to regain an average of 80% and minimum enrollment in 24 credits in to regain their funds after losing it in their first academic year. What happens to my scholarship if I am studying abroad?
Students who participate in an exchange program that have scholarships will be assessed for renewal of their scholarship as well as in-course provided they meet the following criteria;
- Maintain an overall 80% average at StFX for the term they are studying at St Francis Xavier University.
- Are enrolled in a minimum of 12 credits for the term they are studying at St. Francis Xavier University.
- They must provide a completed transcript from their host school to the scholarship office @email.
- The student must pass the exchange.
What happens to my scholarship if I an enrolled in the StFX Co-op program?
Students that participate in the StFX Co-op program that have scholarships will be assessed for renewal of their scholarship as well as a StFX In-course scholarship provided they meet the following criteria;
- Maintain an overall 80% average at StFX for the term they are studying at St Francis Xavier University.
- Are enrolled in a minimum of 12 credits for the term they are studying at St. Francis Xavier University.
How do scholarships work for Engineering student that will only be studying at StFX for 2 or 3 years?
All Engineering students that receive an Entrance scholarship and meet the St Francis Xavier’s terms of renewal may be eligible to apply for a Year 3 Entrance scholarship at Dalhousie.
In order for students to be eligible for a Year 3 Entry scholarship from Dalhousie, students must:
- Apply for a Year 3 Entry Scholarship prior to April 30th (this opens in February), the link is http://go.engineering.dal.ca/3yrs
- Complete all of their diploma/program requirements by the end of the fall/winter term.
- Have an engineering GPA of 3.85 or higher as per Dalhousie University grading scale.
- Students would have to meet the StFX Scholarship renewal terms in their fall/winter term.
Dalhousie only match’s for 1 year and in the 4th year students would need to apply for an In-course scholarship and compete for funding.
