Within our society there are many myths that inform the way we think about sexual assault. These myths circulate in popular culture, in the media, in everyday conversation. Many of these myths blame victims and offer excuses to perpetrators. In court decisions, the Supreme Court of Canada has even spent time detailing some of these myths and explaining why they are wrong. Some of these myths are “gendered”. The reason we are presenting them that way is because this is typically how you hear them in our society.
