Quaecumque Sunt Vera
The St. Francis Xavier University motto - Quaecumque Sunt Vera | Whatsoever things are true - is taken from the letter of Paul to the Philippians (chapter 4, verses 4-9):
I want you to be happy, always happy in the Lord; I repeat, what I want is your happiness. Let your tolerance be evident to everyone: the Lord is very near. There is no need to worry; but if there is anything you need, pray for it, asking God for it with prayer and thanksgiving, and that peace of God, which is so much greater than we can understand, will guard your hearts and your thoughts, in Christ Jesus. Finally, brothers and sisters, fill your minds with everything that is true, everything that is noble, everything that is good and pure, everything that we love and honour, and everything that can be thought virtuous or worthy of praise.
Phil. 4: 4-9
StFX is committed to many dynamics of personal development of its students, including the Spiritual dimension. It is the responsibility of the StFX community to extend the context and meaning of this passage – StFX’s motto – so that reverence and respect is constantly embraced and emitted to each individual.
Chaplaincy is here to be a partner on the individual student’s journey and spiritual development. While rich in its Catholic traditional and historic identity, StFX has expanded to include a broad range of religions, faiths, and spiritual beliefs. StFX is an inviting and accepting institution and community, where personal growth and understanding is a key pillar of the holistic approach fostered at StFX, just as important as the academic, physical, and other extra-curricular aspects of university life.
