Welcome to Wellspring!

The Sisters of St. Martha and StFX University provide a unique “home away from home” for our campus community. Students, staff and faculty are invited to enjoy Wellspring’s resources:

  • A Gathering Room with tables, sofa, and comfortable chairs
  • A study space called "The Golden Chapel"
  • A seminar/meeting room
  • A room for reflection, prayer and meditation
  • A kitchenette

Our focus is to enhance the life of the StFX community through a welcoming Martha presence conducive to the development of persons.

Wellspring offers an oasis experience to students, staff and faculty, who come for quiet reflection, study, to make and meet friends etc. All events and activities held at Wellspring are in light of its mission to serve the Xaverian family in the Martha tradition of hospitality to all.

The Marthas

The Sisters of Saint Martha were founded in Antigonish in July 1900 to meet the domestic needs of StFX College. Beginning with a small group of fifteen young women, the Sisters grew in number expanding their services across Canada. The pioneering dedication of the Marthas is noteworthy in the fields of Household Management, Health Care, Education, and Social Work. From the turn of the century to 1994 Saint Martha's convent on St. F. X. campus was home to many Marthas. Today the former, "Home of the Marthas," opens its doors daily as a Centre of Hospitality. Here the Sisters carry on their 122 year old tradition of service to the Xaverian family through a welcoming Martha presence to all who come.
