About Finance
The Finance program will expose students to current theories and applied finance skills and is a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) affiliated university program. The curriculum will expose students to a wide variety of topics including investments, portfolio management, derivatives, corporate finance, personal finance, international finance, etc.
Why Study Finance at StFX?
The Finance program will appeal to students who are interested in understanding financial markets such as the stock and bond markets and who wish to learn more about how to make investment decisions at both the corporate and personal levels. Students will learn practical skills using our state-of-the-art Finance Lab in their class assignments. Students also have extracurricular opportunities to improve their finance skills, such as managing a portfolio worth over a half million dollars (Xaverian Capital) or competing in finance case competitions (e.g., CFA Investment Research Challenge, CFA Ethics Challenge Case Competition). The program will prepare students to work in industry or to pursue higher studies in finance.
First Year at a Glance
In your first and second year, you will take core courses shared among each of the Faculty of Business disciplines. This will allow you to build a strong foundation and explore what the various disciplines have to offer.
