This listing is a resource that gives students direct access to bursaries available only through St. Francis Xavier University. Application forms can be found on the individual bursary program pages.*

Please be advised that bursary amounts and criteria can change from year to year. The Financial Aid Office will not be held responsible for any inconvenience this may cause. When the website and the Financial Aid Office have discrepancies as to the amount of award, the Financial Aid Office will take precedence in the decision.

*Please note that some limited bursaries require a separate, special application form to be completed. Information about these awards can be found here

Entrance Bursaries

Entrance bursaries are available for direct-from-high-school students to apply for beginning in December of their senior high school year, for study beginning the following September at StFX.

Tuition Waiver for Youth in Extended Care

We recognize spending time in the care of the Nova Scotia child welfare system during any part of your childhood can have an impact on your access to education. One of the biggest challenges could be finances.  If there are barriers or obstacles preventing you from reaching your potential, we want to help.

For more info, visit the Tuition Waiver for Youth in Extended Care page.

In-Course Bursaries

General and Limited Bursaries

The University has modest bursary programs which have been established to offer financial assistance to students in academic programs who find themselves in unanticipated financial difficulty and unable to meet their obligations. Awards are made to those who meet the qualifications established by the university and, where applicable, by the individual donors.

For more info, visit the General Bursaries and Limited Bursaries pages.

Special Bursaries

X-Ring Bursary Program

There is a limited amount of funding available each academic year for approximately 6 to 8 graduating students to use towards the purchase of an X-Ring. These funds are meant to aid students to whom the ring will mean something special but who would otherwise not be able to purchase due to financial constraints.

For more info, visit the X-Ring Bursary Program page.

Emergency Aid Programs

The StFX Student Emergency Fund provides financial assistance for StFX students to address the most urgent cases of students who have nowhere else to turn and are at risk of being prevented from achieving their goal of a StFX diploma or degree.

For more info, visit the Emergency Aid Programs page.

Laptop Support Program

It is strongly suggested that all students studying in-person at StFX procure a personal laptop to support success in their studies. The university recognizes this may cause undue financial hardship for some students and has made a limited amount of needs-based funding available to support students who find themselves without access to a suitable laptop.

For more info, visit the Laptop Support Program page.

Note to grade 12 students: Apply to the Limited and General Bursary Programs once you have begun your studies at StFX; you cannot be considered for funding in either of these programs while you are still in high school.

Note to Part-Time Students: Part-time Study Awards are also available through Continuing & Distance Education . Up to ten awards of $500 will be granted each year to part-time students registered in undergraduate courses. Deadline for application is November 15 & February 15 of each academic year.

Note to Masters Students: Masters students are only eligible for those bursaries in the Limited Bursary program that specify in the description they are open to students at the graduate level.
