The function of the University Council for Research (UCR) is to encourage and to support original research, creative work reflective inquiry and knowledge translation by members of the faculty. Revenue for the University Council for Research comes from general University operating funds, as well as a portion of indirect costs charged by the University on research contracts and contribution agreements with industry and government agencies (with the exception of Tri-Agency awards).
Sabbatical Leave: The UCR reviews and makes recommendations on all applications for Sabbatical Leave. The application for Sabbatical Leave is made using the StFX ROMEO Researcher Portal.
Research Grants: The UCR oversees three types of research awards; the guidelines for each are outlined below. The application for Research Grants is made using the StFX ROMEO Researcher Portal.
- UCR Standard Research Grants for Faculty (for 2023-24, mandatory pay rates for student research assistants with UCR funds, only, are: Undergraduate $17/hr; Masters $20/hr; PhD $25/hr; in all cases, add 11% for vacation pay and remittances to government)
- Salary-based Research Grants (only for faculty on sabbatical leave)
- Undergraduate Student Research Awards (for students) Note: Students make application for a general Undergraduate Research Award and eligible students are assigned awards from the UCR fund.
