Student Learning Opportunities
Students are at the heart of our work. At the Centre on Aging and Disability Justice, learning happens through real-world experiences, not just in the classroom. Students work alongside researchers, community leaders, government, and non-government groups to address challenges related to aging and disability in rural communities.
Through these projects, students:
- Apply classroom knowledge to hands-on research and community engagement.
- Extend StFX research beyond campus to rural communities.
- Learn from lived experiences and local knowledge.
- Build skills in collaboration, leadership, and participatory approaches.
- Contribute to inclusive practices that strengthen equity and belonging.
These opportunities include embedded research, community-based projects, and experiential learning activities that prepare students to lead change in diverse settings. Supported by the Centre’s networks, students gain valuable education, policy relevant experience and professional development related to creating and sustaining accessible, age-friendly communities and organizations.
