Biography

Jeslyn graduated from St. Francis Xavier University in 2005 with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. She has cultivated a comprehensive skill set encompassing medical-surgical, emergency, and community nursing. Seeking new challenges, she relocated from Nova Scotia to Nunavut. During her years on Baffin Island, she provided holistic care on an acute care, general duty unit, rotating through specialties such as intensive care, labour and delivery, mental health, adult medical-surgical and pediatrics. Later specializing in emergency nursing, enriching her practice and adaptability.

Committed to lifelong learning, Jeslyn earned a Nurse Educator Certificate from George Brown College (2011) and a Master of Nursing with Distinction from the University of Southern Queensland (2014). These qualifications facilitated her transition to nursing education in the Yukon, where she taught and maintained clinical competence through casual emergency department work. Her time in Nunavut and the Yukon allowed her the privilege of engaging with Indigenous communities, profoundly shaping her clinical practice and pedagogical approach.

Since returning to Nova Scotia, she has embraced community nursing in rural Cape Breton where she continues to work. As Treasurer of the Canadian Association for Rural and Remote Nursing (CARRN), Jeslyn is committed to promoting and strengthening rural nursing across Canada. Since joining the Rankin School of Nursing, she earned a Canadian Certified Nurse Educator Certificate (2020) and currently coordinates medical-surgical clinical courses while teaching in nursing labs, simulations, clinical and academic courses. Jeslyn is deeply committed to cultivating learning environments where learners feel safe, supported, and empowered to grow both personally and professionally.
