Janet Purvis
I have been a Registered Nurse for over 30 years and I am working on a Ph.D. in Education. I graduated from the diploma program at the Halifax Infirmary School of Nursing in 1986. I earned a BSc from Saint Mary’s University in 1991 and then a Master of Nursing in health policy from Dalhousie in 2007. I spent the first 20 years of my career providing direct care to clients in acute care, long-term care and then in home care where I found my niche. I worked as a National Practice Consultant for VON Canada before coming to St FX as an Assistant Professor.
I have expertise in community health nursing, health policy, regulation and delegation, the unregulated care provider role, and the utilization and integration of best practice resources into policy and practice. I also hold a Canadian Nurses Association Certification in Community Health Nursing.
My primary area of research is Continuous Professional Education in nursing and the integration and sustainability of best practices into nursing practice.
