The scholarships cover full-time master’s or professional studies in all disciplines, including: Over 150+ eligible programs across the faculties of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences, Arts, Dentistry, Education, Engineering, Law, Management, Medicine and Health Sciences, Music, and Science

Second-entry professional undergraduate degrees in Dentistry, Law, and Medicine

McCall MacBain Scholars will be selected for their exceptional character, track record of community engagement, leadership potential, entrepreneurial spirit, academic strength, and intellectual curiosity:

• Exceptional character: integrity, honesty, humility, empathy, resilience, an unwavering commitment to the pursuit of excellence and to hard work and service, continual learning and self-awareness, long attention-span, perseverance, and a willingness to take meaningful risks and learn from failures.
• Community engagement and extra-curricular involvement: a track record of service: thoughtful, committed experience working for and with others to address challenges that face communities large and small. A breadth and depth of interests, evidenced by sustained involvement in extra-curricular or other activities. These activities may include mastery in the arts, athletics, or other pursuits.
• Leadership potential: experience working with and leading others towards a common goal, of taking on tough leadership roles to advance meaningful change. a collaborative spirit who seek to improve the lot of others and develop the potential of those they lead.
• Entrepreneurial spirit: those who can identify needs and gaps and to motivate others in developing and implementing creative and effective solutions to address them. people who are not afraid to forge new paths and are not held back by fear of failure.
• Academic strength and intellectual curiosity: a deep interest in and curiosity about people, ideas, and the world around them. an interest in and experience working with others with perspectives different from their own. a good fit between the proposed graduate program, the candidate’s qualifications, and their plans for the future.

Important - please note: 

Current university students and recent graduates must have their application endorsed by StFX.  After you complete your application online, it will be submitted to StFX for review.  An internal committee will review all applications and recommend StFX nominees to Dr. Amanda Cockshutt, Academic Vice President and Provost.  Given the competitive nature of this Scholarship opportunity and the limited number of scholarships available across Canada and the high standards associated with these awards, StFX is required limit the numbers of students endorsed to a maximum of five (5) Canadian students and one (1) International Student.  University endorsements will be decided and communicated to all applicants by October 13, 2023.

• Students who do not have Canadian citizenship, permanent residency or refugee status, AND if your current/most recent degree is not from a university in Canada or the United States – you must submit your scholarship application (and both reference forms) by August 21, 2024.
• For students who have Canadian citizenship, permanent residency or refugee status, OR if your current/most recent degree is from a university in Canada or the United States - the McCall MacBain Scholars online application deadline is September 25, 2024.
