Welcome to Club Sports at StFX!
The Competitive Sports Club program at StFX University is designed to provide additional opportunities for individuals interested in a specific sport to develop or improve their skills, to participate recreationally or competitively in leagues and competitions external to StFX, and establish social contacts. Sport clubs are voluntary, non-profit, student led organizations whose members assume the leadership and financial responsibilities of club activities. All members are required to adhere to Department of Athletics & Recreation and University guidelines and policies.

Cheerleading
X-Cheer is a student run team that began in 2000. Since then, the club has evolved and changed into the competitive team it is today. The team pushes itself each and every time they hit the mat to improve their skills, while having lots of fun along the way. Our team is full of bright, hardworking and talented individuals who are looking to make their own experience at X, as well as the experience of others, the best it can be.

Curling
The StFX Curling Club consists of a competitive men’s and women’s team who train and practice hard all year to compete in the annual AUS Championships. The StFX Curling Club also consists of a recreational side where university curlers compete in the Thursday night league at the local Highlander Curling Club. We even have nights where we get together in an empty classroom when there are big curling events going on like the men’s or women’s curling championships for example, and together the curling club watches the games. We also participate in 2-3 local bonspiels throughout the season. If you are interested in joining or have any questions we would be more than happy to chat with you or answer questions, we are always happy to help!

Rowing
The StFX University Rowing Club is a developing program whose objective is to support, promote, and advance the sport of rowing within both the university and surrounding community. The Club is based out of Antigonish. StFX Rowing has progressed to become a competitive program and continues to develop elite athletes that compete on both the provincial and national levels.
The StFX University Rowing Club is a competitive team that follows intensive training schedules, but as a club, we receive limited funding. As our yearly funding constitutes a small fraction of the operating costs, we must raise our own funds to buy equipment and cover travel expenses. Individual athletes currently cover all their own regatta fees and traveling costs. As a club, we are a student run organization, which is self-administered by our own student executive in addition to our studies and training.

Rugby
Football has had a long and distinguished history at Maritime Universities. Until the 1950’s rugby was the principal fall sport, but this changed when Football was adopted as the primary sporting activity in 1958. The myths and rumours of how rugby started again at StFX have been lost in the mists of time and hallways of academia. But what we do know is that in 1967, rising from those mists like the kilted heroes of his homeland, university professor Ed Carty stepped into the role of Head Coach of the StFX Rugby Team. Later joined by another professor, the always eloquent Derek Wood, StFX Rugby developed as a “Club Sport”.
