The Canadian Association for University Continuing Education (CAUCE) has awarded a 2022 CAUCE award to the StFX Distance Nursing Program for Internationally Educated Nurses for Credit programming over 48 hours category.
“I believe the StFX Distance Nursing International Educated Nurses (IENs) courses are helping nurses fulfil their competency gaps set by nursing regulatory bodies, which in turn is helping to train more International Educated Nurses into the Canadian nursing workforce,” said Fred Allen, StFX Program Manager, Distance Nursing Programs, Department of Continuing & Distance Education.
International Educated Nurses typically take a series of courses (1-9 StFX Post-RN Program courses). These courses are taken as standalones to fulfill competency gaps identified by the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO).
“The College of Nurses of Ontario has a robust and streamlined process to verify IENs home country education and to compare it to the nursing standards within Canada and particularly Ontario,” said Mr. Allen. “International Educated Nurses typically go through the process of getting their RN license through Ontario first and porting it to their home province/territory should they reside outside of Ontario.”
“Given the well known nursing shortages across Canada, I feel StFX is helping to alleviate some of this pressure by helping International Educated Nurses fulfil the educational requirements associated to the competency gaps identified by College of Nurses of Ontario/Canadian Nursing regulator,” he added.
“StFX Distance Nursing is happy to help IEN’s achieve success in acquiring their RN license within Canada.”
Another national award from the Canadian Council for Advancement of Education (CCAE) was presented to the StFX’s Advancement Department, recognizing its work in public relations work.
A silver was awarded to StFX for its “THANX” poster campaign. It was a way for the university and broader community to publicly recognize and visually express appreciation to the StFX student community for their efforts in keeping COVID-19 at bay. Posters and signs were placed inside and outside across campus.
In the previous year, StFX Advancement won 10 awards for exceeding national standards in community outreach, fundraising, media relations, and alumni initiatives.
