Gena MacPherson
Gena MacPherson is a nurse educator with over 13 years of experience as a registered nurse. She specializes in mental health and addictions, medical-surgical nursing, and skills and simulation-based education. She completed her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from St. Francis Xavier University (StFX), Antigonish, Nova Scotia (NS) in 2013 and a Bachelor of Business Administration with the University College of Cape Breton, Sydney, NS in 2001. She is currently pursing her Master of Adult Education from StFX, with an anticipated completion date of 2025. Before transitioning to academia, she accumulated a diverse range of clinical experiences, spanning from community nursing, medical-surgical, and mental health and addictions. Prior to her nursing career, she spent a decade in the business sector, where she honed her skills in trade and promotions, sales, and account management, cultivating a strong foundation for communication and leadership. She is a member of the curriculum committee and has served as a preceptor for students and nursing staff. She is a dedicated nurse educator who fosters critical thinking skills and a supportive learning environment. Gena enjoys spending time with her two children, Jude and Alana, and her dog Benny. Outside of academia, she enjoys an active lifestyle, pursuing hobbies such as paddleboarding, yoga, biking, and reading.
