Diploma in Engineering (2 years)

Program overview

Year 1 is common except for the writing courses. For year 2, students must follow the requirements for the disciplines to which they hold conditional admission at Dalhousie University third year engineering, as outlined below. Please note, each course is 3 credits and may have a laboratory.

Year 1: 36 credits consisting of CHEM 121, CHEM122; ENGR 147; ENGR 121, ENGR122, ENGR128, ENGR132, ENGR136; PHYS 121, PHYS122; 6 credits of writing courses. The writing courses consist of any 6-credit combination of ART 141, 142, MUSI 119, MUSI217 and any course(s) from ANTH, ENGL, HIST, PHIL, PSCI, RELS, or WMGS. Students wishing to take a writing course not listed here must obtain the approval of the engineering department chair. 

Year 2: 33 credits consisting of ENGR 223, ENGR 211, ENGR 221, ENGR  222, ENGR 224, ENGR 232, ENGR  237, ENGR 242; 9 credits of the discipline-specific courses listed below: 

  • Chemical: ENGR 212, 227; CHEM 221 
  • Civil: ENGR 212, ENGR 216, ENGR 235 
  • Electrical: ENGR 238, ENGR 246; ENGR 250
  • Environmental: ENGR 212, ENGR 216, ENGR 235 
  • Industrial: ENGR 253; any two of ENGR 212, ENGR 216, ENGR 227, ENGR 231, ENGR 235, ENGR 238, ENGR 246; CHEM 221 
  • Mechanical: ENGR 212, ENGR 231, ENGR 235

Students are also given the option to spread their Engineering Diploma across three years instead of the standard two. This program offers the same courses with the difference of four 3-credit courses per term instead of the usual six for the two-year diploma.
