Library Services for Distance Students, Faculty & Staff

Our Inter-Library Lending department is also responsible for delivering print materials from the StFX collection and other Novanet Libraries to students, staff and faculty who live or work at a distance within Canada from the StFX campus.

In all cases, your local library, whether a university, college, hospital or public library, should be your first resource for locating research material in order to put it in your hands as soon as possible. If you do not have access to another library, and/or before you pay for any of their services, please make a request using our Inter-Library lending form.  For students and staff studying or working internationally, please note the following:

  • Distance students, faculty and staff studying or working outside of Canada should be aware that we do not ship physical items internationally.  If this is your situation and you need an entire physical work, please use your local library as your first resource as this will be the fastest and cheapest option to get the material you need.
  • You can access our online collection from anywhere in the world with your StFX credentials, and you may request scans of book chapters or articles within copyright parameters via our ILL service.

Requests can also be placed using:

  • The ‘Check for Full Text…’ link in our databases.
  • Choosing "Document Delivery" from the additional options in the Journal list.

In-person borrowing privileges at Novanet member libraries is done via your StFX ID card. Most academic Libraries in the rest of Canada will allow you to borrow their materials by presenting a CAAL card, which can be requested from the Angus L. Macdonald Library. For more information about this program, including participating libraries and to request a card, please go to the CAAL Cards page.

Visit our Need Help webpage for a list of the options available to aid in your search for sources.
